Former Officer Convicted of Serious Charges
A former police officer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple offenses, including the rape of two women and the abuse of a third. Cameron Ross, 39, carried out these attacks over several years and in different locations.
Details of the Offenses
The incidents of rape occurred in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in 2012 and 2014. Subsequently, Ross subjected another woman to a period of abuse in Inverness between 2019 and 2022.
Legal Proceedings and Suspension
Ross, who had been a police officer, was suspended from Police Scotland in January 2024 when the allegations surfaced. He later resigned from his position last month. Despite denying the charges, a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found him guilty following a trial in May.
