Convicted Grooming Gang Leader Released
Shabir Ahmed, who led a grooming gang in Rochdale and was known as 'Daddy' to his victims, has been released from prison. Ahmed was sentenced in August 2012 to 22 years for a range of child sexual offenses, including rape, involving girls as young as 12.
Release Conditions and Deportation Issues
Victims were recently informed that Ahmed would be released on license. Despite previous assurances, deportation could not proceed due to a 55-year-old legal precedent. The 73-year-old reportedly left prison earlier this week and is now residing in secure accommodation, subject to electronic monitoring via a GPS tag.
Background of the Case
Ahmed's conviction in 2012 brought to light the extensive abuse perpetrated by the gang. The recent decision regarding his release and the inability to deport him have drawn attention to legal complexities surrounding such cases.
