Tottenham Secures Tonali in Club Record Deal
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly finalized a transfer agreement with Newcastle United for midfielder Sandro Tonali. The deal is understood to be worth an initial £92.5 million, with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons, potentially bringing the total value to £100 million.
This development follows an earlier bid from Spurs, reported to be around £80 million, which Newcastle United had previously declined. The acquisition of Tonali would mark Tottenham's second significant midfield signing this week, as the club also reportedly reached an £85 million agreement for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes.
De Zerbi's Long-Standing Interest
Reports indicate that manager Roberto De Zerbi has been a long-term admirer of the Italian midfielder. De Zerbi's interest in Tonali dates back to his tenure at Sassuolo, where he identified the player as a key target while Tonali was competing in Serie A.
Should the deal be completed as anticipated, Tonali's transfer fee would set a new record for Tottenham Hotspur, surpassing recent club expenditures.
