Authorities in China have determined that the pilot involved in a recent incident where a small plane struck Beijing's tallest building acted for "personal reasons." The crash, which occurred last week, resulted in the pilot's death and injuries to 13 other individuals.

Pilot's Health and Personal Circumstances Cited

According to a statement released by the Chaoyang district, the pilot, identified only by his surname Liu, was a 66-year-old freelance professional residing in Beijing. He was divorced and lived alone. The investigation revealed that Liu suffered from "chronic insomnia and anxiety." Furthermore, entries in his diary reportedly contained "multiple expressions of ending his life," indicating a premeditated act.

"The comprehensive investigation concluded that this was a case of endangering public safety caused by personal reasons," the statement affirmed.

Of those injured in the incident, one individual has since been released from the hospital. Footage of the crash at the CITIC Tower had circulated extensively on social media platforms before being removed from the Chinese internet as the investigation progressed. The event had prompted significant discussion among observers regarding potential security vulnerabilities.
