Veteran jockey Frankie Dettori has sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb following a car crash, according to his management team. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the vicinity of Newmarket, Suffolk.

H Talent Management confirmed that the collision took place when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Dettori, 55, was operating. This impact caused his vehicle to spin and subsequently flip over. Dettori is currently hospitalized, undergoing further medical assessments and observation for his injuries.

"Frankie would like to thank the emergency services who attended the scene, together with the doctors, nurses and wider medical team caring for him," stated H Talent Management. "His focus is now on resting and recovering. H Talent Management respectfully asks that Frankie's privacy is respected at this time. No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update."

Future Racing Plans Affected

Dettori's last appearance in a British race was in October 2023, where he rode King of Steel to victory in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. He was anticipated to return to racing in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during the St Leger Festival this September. The full impact of his injuries on these plans remains to be seen.

While initially reported near Newmarket in Suffolk, the collision is now believed to have occurred just across the border in Cambridgeshire.
