Trump Issues Pardons to 11 Individuals
President Donald Trump has recently pardoned 11 individuals, with nine of those pardons granted to people convicted of violating the Clean Air Act. This act is crucial for maintaining air quality by regulating the emissions of pollutants. Among those pardoned was a former business associate of Jack Abramoff, a well-known disgraced Washington lobbyist.
Details on the Emissions-Related Pardons
The White House released a list detailing the pardons, highlighting that nine individuals were charged with disabling emissions monitoring systems or distributing devices that allow for such bypassing. These actions are contrary to the Clean Air Act, which aims to protect public health and the environment from air pollution. On his Truth Social account, Trump mentioned granting clemency to six of these individuals but did not disclose their identities. He suggested they were unfairly targeted under President Joe Biden's administration for merely fixing their vehicles.
Further, Trump signed a memorandum directing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to permit citizens to repair their vehicles as they see fit. This move follows his earlier decision in February to rescind federal tailpipe emissions standards, a reversal of policies set during former President Barack Obama's administration.
Pardon of Abramoff's Associate
Among the pardoned individuals was Adam Kidan, who currently leads Empire Workforce Solutions. Kidan was previously imprisoned for wire fraud alongside Jack Abramoff in 2006. The charges related to fraudulent activities in the purchase of a fleet of gambling vessels. Kidan served time until 2009 and was noted to have hosted a fundraising event at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort earlier this year for a Republican congressional candidate from Long Island.
