Frequency of Waterspouts in Germany
According to information from the German weather service DWD, as cited by the Associated Press, waterspouts are not an entirely uncommon occurrence in the region. The DWD indicates that such events typically happen about two to three times annually.
Waterspouts are rotating columns of air that form over water, usually connected to a cumulus cloud. They share characteristics with land tornadoes but are generally less intense and form in different atmospheric conditions.
